While the Federal Reserve is gratifying American credit consumers by lowering the prime rate, which by December, 2007 amounted to 7.50%, British credit card market will perhaps try quite the opposite policy. Millions of British households may experience an unpleasant hike in interest rates on mortgages and credit cards as soon as this Christmas.
They say it is going to be the biggest credit hangover in the last few years due to the disturbance on the British credit card market. Financial experts predict that because of the banks' refusal to lend each other money, customers will suffer from increased rates and hefty fees on credit cards.

Recently there have appeared quite a number of smart tricks to get out of credit card debt and one of the most frequently used is making a balance transfer onto another, lower interest credit card. A personal loan to pay off debt, home equity, credit card debt counseling or debt consolidation loan are obviously a greater risk for a cardholder seeking relief.
A card with a lower interest rate, especially if you qualify for it, is enticing and seems to be a much better way out at first sight. But if you know all the pitfalls of making a balance transfer credit card deal, if you think of those rates hikes leading to a new debt, you will probably change your mind out of this venture.

Looking back to the past 2007, we must acknowledge the fact that credit industry had hard times. The sub-prime mortgage crisis has influenced the U.S. economy greatly, and credit experts are not so optimistic about the situation in credit card market.
The point is, credit card delinquencies are up sharply. The nationwide lenders report about increases of 50% in the accounts that were 90 days delinquent. This figure is much higher compared with the same period last year. So, what should we expect from creditors in the year of 2008?

They will attempt to transfer their credit card balances during 2008, 7% of them are planning to move their debts in January. In fact, crisis trends within American economy became apparent long ago. But if we want to understand the causes of this crisis we need to know how economy works. The main principle here is Credit. Everything works on the basis of credit. Production and economic growth depend on credit investments. The necessity of recoupment of capital investments pushes business to search and open new market areas. Thus credit investment style needs more and more consumers.
Modern U.S. economy clearly absorbs resources of all available consumers. Having made rapid advance after USSR dissolution (together with establishing of a new market zone) national credit organizations began to issue an enormous number of credits for any purposes.

As a rule, customers treat creditors with some kind of suspicion knowing that their financial matters are in lenders' hands. Credit card regulations like "anytime for any reason" embarrass credit users. These days, creditors seem to change their approach to cardholders. And another solid argument is the appearance of new credit card services provided by major nationwide lenders.
Chase, one of the leading global financial services, has recently launched its new marketing campaign known as "Chase What Matters. This credit program is supposed to help customers manage their finances more effectively. Learn more about this new credit card campaign!

Economy is all about ups and downs. Now that financial experts all over the world are concerned about the potential economic recession in the US, the Federal Reserve took the lead and cut interest rate by three quarters of a percent, so that the federal funds rate is 3.5%. That's the most dramatic reduction since 1984.
What does this change mean for banks? It means that lenders will also lower their rates and this move will affect credit customers as well. The question is, who will actually benefit from this rate cut and when?
