When Your Credit Card Deal Works for Christmas Shopping

By force of habit we expect something special, if not magic, on Christmas, and recently our suchlike expectations have got much to do with credit cards. And it is not without reason - credit card companies stick to the policy of offering seasonal teaser terms on their credit products, thus extending their customers base.

Customers look for an armful of gifts for friends and relatives, so cheaper credit card deals during holiday shopping seasons are especially sought for. And such deals are often available on Christmas. With companies' promotional offers and loyalty plans, you not only save on interest but can also get the most of a cash back program.

So, let's make a brief review of the useful tips on credit card deals if you are going to use them as the prime payment tool for this Christmas holiday season. Credit card debt is certainly not the thing you would ever ask Santa for, is it?

First, you need to remember that whenever you pull out your plastic to make a purchase, lots of traps lie in wait for you to make a mistake. The first and most annoying one is our own irresistible desire to buy up everything with at least a hint of being a present.

If you can't fight the desire, you are strongly advised to set out shopping with a 0% Intro APR or a gainful cash back credit card. You are definitely planning to spend big amounts on holiday gifts and the ability to have some of your money back or be rewarded for your purchases with, say, redeemable points, is of great value to you.

So, let's concentrate on cash back credit card offers. What's the deal?

One of the best deals with cash back at present comes apparently from Capital One financial services company. Its No Hassle Cash Rewards card for good credit customers offers 1% cash back on all purchases with, just imagine, no limit on the amount of cash earned!

What's more, you are eligible for a 25% annual bonus on the cash you earn, even if your credit rating needs improvement.

This plastic looks the best deal for Christmas purchases as long as it carries 0%APR on purchases until July 2008. It means, if you pay for all your holiday purchases in time, no interest will apply and you will happily come into the New Year free of credit card debt.

Then, if you are a customer of American Express company, it is worth getting Blue Cash credit card. With its 5% cash back bonus, 0% Intro APR on purchases for 6 months and no annual fee, this plastic makes your Christmas spending truly enjoyable and unforgettable.

Those looking for most whatever advantage to make out of Christmas shopping are advised to make a research for offers with double cash back as these are also available.

Now what about the traps? Well, shopping for Christmas, you have to exercise double caution - your overwhelming desire to spend and extra alertness of identity theft criminals or credit card fraudster hunting after your credit card number.

It is funny how easily you can get off your guard on the bustling days of preparation for the holiday. With all this festive excitement, it is no wonder that you can forget your plastic on the desk or just lose it.

As to your spending ways during the holiday, remember that you will most probably continue using the credit card after Christmas and most probably do it on its regular terms already. So, it is worthwhile making a longest 0% interest on purchases deal and pay off your balances before the teaser rates period is over.

Good news for American borrowers - this Wednesday major U.S. banks began lowering their prime interest rates in tandem with the Fed fund rate reductions. The prime interest rate has dropped to a four-year low 4.0 percent from 4.50 percent. The prime rate is the most common underlying index for most credit cards and other loans. It means that banks and lending companies can lower interest rates to their best customers. JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America were the first to announce lending rate cuts, other banks are likely to follow this trend.
