Credit ImprovementWednesday, May 09, 2007 Credit Card Deals and Credit ImprovementsA person’s credit rating, whether they currently have good credit or bad credit, is a conduit towards the rest of their financial life. And since personal finances are so important in today’s world, their credit rating is really a conduit towards the rest of their life. A person with good credit can get the best credit card deals, all of the favorable attention from credit card company representatives and many other perks. A person with poor credit not only doesn’t have access to all of these advantages, but can also actually be actively hampered by their poor credit. Bad credit card deals are the only ones offered to them and the stress and anxiety that their credit rating causes them could end up severely affecting their health. If you are one of these people, there are many things you can go ahead and do to improve your credit score. Educate Yourself: Go ahead and make sure that you regularly review your credit report for mistakes. A person with good credit might have a poor credit report with a lot of errors and mistakes. You have the legal right to get this information corrected, but the only way you can do that is if you know it is incorrect in the first place! In addition, learning about what is on your credit report (whether you have good credit or bad credit) will allow you to know what your credit score is. Your credit score as calculated by one of the major credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax or TransUnion) is one of the most important pieces of information you can have. Cut down on the bleeding: Try to close as many credit card accounts as possible. We all love getting great credit card deals so that we can brag about them to our friends, but it serves no purpose to have a bunch of them if they are all severely affecting you. Transfer balances to other cards if you must, but close down as many of your active credit card deals as you can. Also make sure not to make any new credit card deals. Be responsible and punctual: Make sure that every month on every account you make at least the minimum payment. Furthermore, make sure that you make that minimum payment on time. One of the most damaging things to your credit rating is ongoing and prolonged lack of payments or late payments and one way to stem the bleeding (and thus follow the previous step) is to make sure that you are on time, every time. These are just three of the many things that you can do to fix your credit rating. It is a long and difficult process to do but taking the time to do it right will pay dividends later with better credit card deals, better all around treatment from the credit card company representatives and many perks that you otherwise would not be able to enjoy with a bad credit history.
