How Can You Stop Credit Card Mailings?

If you happen to be a good cardholder, most obviously your mailbox is full of mailings from card companies. Oddly enough, the majority of those people with good and excellent credit score are not so much interested in these credit offers, as they can easily make great credit card deals online rather than responding to these mailings. If you are sick and tired of a thick bunch of pre-approved credit card offers, you have all the chances to stop these mailings. Read on and you will learn how you can stop receiving annoying mailings from credit card companies and banks.

In accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, major credit reporting agencies have the right to sell your information to lenders. Creditors in their turn, choose those customers to whom they would like to offer their credit products. Fortunately, this act has an amendment saying that major bureaus must give you an opportunity to opt out.

First off, you can opt out by mail. Write to the major bureaus and request them to exclude you from pre-approval lists. However, you should provide your personal data, including your name, phone number, ZIP code, SSN and mailing address.

Secondly, you can contact credit reporting agencies by phone. The point is, credit bureaus have a special service for those who would like to stop receiving credit card mail from creditors. You can also visit www.optoutprescreen.com and provide your personal information. Once you do this, you name is automatically removed from pre-screened lists, and bureaus will hide your file from the issuers offering pre-approval credit cards for five years.

The procedure is quite simple and it will not take you much time to do this. But the idea of providing sensitive information seems to be not the best idea for most cardholders. If you are highly concerned about this point, take into consideration the fact that credit reporting agencies already have this information. Besides, they've done their best to provide customers with a secure environment especially for this purpose.

But don't be surprised to receive unsolicited credit offers even after your request. The problem is, some card companies may use older lists. By the way, if you want to get mail from the company you already have relationships with, you can still receive it.

Opting out of credit offer mail is also a great option for those who are concerned about the environmental aspect of this procedure. Today, you can easily deal with companies that send all the necessary documentation by e-mail. Generally, these are the issuers of green credit cards.

But all in all, the idea of reducing the amount of the junk mail in your mailbox is really great, as there are a great number of customers who have to shred tons of pre-approved credit offers. If you are the one who likes to keep everything in an apple-pie order, and piles of credit card mailings are not your choice, feel free to take actions about it.

Stolen Credit Cards

One of the things most people would hate to lose is a credit card or a wallet full of plastics. The point is, a lost or stolen credit card may become the reason for serious financial problems.
