Credit card perks customers are unaware of

Tuesday, August 02, 2011

One of the most recent studies conducted by MasterCard to test the basic awareness of the customers has revealed that over 55% of the consumers are not aware of the various perks that are offered on their credit cards. This ignorance has cost them money since most of them ended up paying more for perks they already had present on their card.

The major focus is always on the fees, charges and interest rates on the credit cards and people often tend to overlook the various perks that are offered as a part of the deal. While cash back and air miles are rewards that easily get highlighted, there are relatively lesser visible perks that can make a difference. Here are a few of the other valuable perks that are offered as a part of the standard package.

Car rental loss and damage insurance are a part of the standard perks on credit cards. Availing car rental service using your credit card will keep you covered in case this car gets damaged. It is not imperative to buy separate insurance from the rental provider by paying extra cost.

The purchase protection plan is another perk customers are unaware of. Any item purchased using the credit card is covered for accidental damage and theft for up to three months from the time of purchase.

Trip cancellation insurance is a perk that can come in handy when you are planning for trips with the entire family. Cancelling the tickets at the last minute due to unforeseen emergencies can cost you a lot of money. However, if you purchase the tickets using a credit card, you can still be covered for these losses.

With the economic upheaval, obtaining a credit card seems a distant dream, especially if you fail to qualify for any credit card application. Nonetheless, turning into an authorized user, i.e. attaching yourself with a good-quality credit customer`s account and the consent to use it, would boost your credit scores swiftly, and jump start your credit history.
