“Contactless technology has become increasingly popular with our cardmembers and more accepted by merchants worldwide, and we want to deliver the best shopping experience to our cardmembers,” Szabolcs Paldy, senior vice president, marketing at Discover commented upon the rollout. “The goal of this digital technology is to make payments fast, easy and secure, and give cardmembers more choices in how they pay.”
Indeed, despite the widespread belief that contactless credit cards are insecure, they are in fact much safer than you could think since a similar to regular chip cards’ technology is used. Moreover, they are surely more convenient and carry out transactions several times faster.
Thanks to contactless technology, Discover cards are now accepted at more locations. You just need to find the special Contactless Symbol at checkout and tap to pay for your purchases. However, if the merchant doesn’t support this kind of transactions, never mind! You can still insert your card as usual as well as add it to the digital wallet on your smartphone.
Some of the current Discover cardholders are already able to request a card with the contactless option in their Discover online account. As for new approved applicants, they will get their cards issued as contactless starting December.
