Credit card loopholes to be carved out soon

2010-12-23

A lot of new credit card regulations came into effect to help customers deal with many card issuers` tricks. However, credit card issuers in the coming year would be looking forward to generating new sources of revenues to make up for the losses. These new ways would be in contrast to the efforts of the card holders to cut down on their credit card dependence next year. A lot of changes are predicted for 2011.

Credit card issuers cannot increase the APR on the credit card accounts in the first year of opening card accounts. So rates are expected to go up on the new accounts. The average interest rates in the country have, in fact, risen from 11.64%, 6 months back to 13.8%. Card issuers like Chase Freedom and Discover More are offering 100 dollar spending bonuses for new card customers who reach spending limits of 799 and 500 dollars in 3 months. The annual fee in the Thank You Prestige Card from Citi is 500 dollars. However, customers can earn a point for every dollar spent on select purchases, along with 1.3 points at drug stores, gas stations and supermarkets. The Thank You Premiere Card has a much lower annual fee of 125 dollars but offers 1.2 points for purchases at drug stores, supermarkets and gas stations.

There has been an increase in 0% introductory period, balance transfer offers from many credit card issuers. The introductory period could be longer than a year. Some companies are using prepaid cards to earn revenues as well.

It really pays when you do the right thing. Take credit cards for instance, having a clean credit profile really does help. Those who managed to maintain a squeaky clean credit report during the recession can now jump with joy, as they will get some of the best deals from credit card issuers.
