Your first bag on Delta flight is now free with American Express SkyMiles credit card. Read on to find out about this and other benefits offered by the airline to its loyal customers.

New offer from Delta Air Lines is in effect starting June 1. American Express Delta SkyMiles credit cardholders can now check their first bad free of charge. Up to nine passengers in the same reservation can have their fee waived on the first checked bag. It is available for consumers and small businesses with Gold, Platinum and Reserve Delta SkyMiles Credit Cards.

The usual fee for the first checked bag on Delta domestic flights is $23 if registered online or $25 if registered at the airport. With this new benefit for American Express SkyMiles Cardmembers savings on a round trip for one person can be up to $50. For a family of four savings can be as high as $200 for a round trip. Delta says they will waive the fee for SkyMiles cardholders at the check-in. This benefit has been available to those travelling first and business class for a while now, they can already check two bags for free. With the recent update in the frequent flyer bonus program Delta economy class passengers will be able to enjoy this valuable benefit as well.

Competing with other airlines and their rewards programs Delta Air Lines and American Express offer their cardmembers many advantageous features and unprecedented services: there are no limits on how many miles you can earn; cardholders earn double miles on every dollar spent on purchases with Delta, and one mile on every dollar for other eligible purchases; to purchase a Delta ticket earned miles can be used to pay entire price or a portion of it; upon annual renewal of membership cardholders get a domestic companion certificate; earned miles can be redeemed at discounted rates for hotel stays, merchandise, car rentals and more; unprecedented high quality customer service and advanced purchase and travel protection. Last year Delta also made updates in its frequent flyer program, the main one being bringing the two programs together to offer even more benefits and options to all cardmembers, including the ability to earn status, receive upgrades, etc.

By the end of this year Delta promises even more updates. The airline is working hard on bringing a greater allocation of Preferred Seats on all flights to make sure all loyal customers can get best seats even if the reservation was done last minute. All Gold, Platinum and Diamond Medallion members can expect reward upgrades as early as September. Delta is working on improving online booking process, this includes improved display of pricing and availability; a wider variety of search options and flight services will be added and more. Later in 2010 as a part of continuing partnership with Alaska Air upgrade on Alaska for Gold, Platinum and Diamond Medallions will become available. 2011 should bring even more updates, promises Delta. They constantly put effort into improving customers’ Delta experience online, at the airport and in the air.

With the economic upheaval, obtaining a credit card seems a distant dream, especially if you fail to qualify for any credit card application. Nonetheless, turning into an authorized user, i.e. attaching yourself with a good-quality credit customer`s account and the consent to use it, would boost your credit scores swiftly, and jump start your credit history.
